Marketplace Admin - Spotify

In fast moving project, my squad helped design and build an internal management tool that allowed our Creator Services member in London, manage access and creation of organizations in prep for bringing label teams from Spotify Analytics to Spotify for Artists.

My role

Product designer

Time

Aug 2019 – Sep 2019

My focus

Rapid development an internal tool for Creator Services to create and manage label teams users and content.

Two mental models existed for access management

  • Search and action oriented

  • Roster oriented

Search + Action first oriented

A powerful search oriented hierarchy that could scale across team types

Roster style experience

Subdividing the information into organizations v. Teams and diving in a roster style format.

Rapid user research

Usability testing conducted by a user research partner on 4 creator services representatives in London how accessing the management platform of these two models compared. Probing into how the tool fits into their work & jobs to be done.

Takeaways

Search was a favorable case workflow

The participants liked the ability to use elastic search, seeing it as a powerful tool in comparison to how the defunct Spotify Analytics management platform handled cases.

Density aided in speed

Participants also found a full scrollable view the most useful. Since they need a lot of information available at once, more clicks was not really necessary for them.

Org creation is messy, requires management/cleanup

The team appreciated any attempts at giving more control over cleaning up team files. Such as removing old teams, warning of duplicate teams, and help consolidating multiples.

Final landing illustration

By creating search centered MVP, I used illustration to help bring life & guidance to the main landing page.

Follow ups

  • We did a roundtable testing session with Creator Services for one more round of feedback. Small UX & tech bugs were documented, but our team built the required product definition.

  • I created an internal manual for use of the tool and drafted UX recommendations for the access team to continue iterations on the platform.

Measured results

  • 100% of tasks were completable

    • Since we had a limited timeline and limited criteria of success, our definition of done was successfully completing our user stories.

  • 10 sublabel teams have been onboarded

    • In the course of 1 month since build, 10 label teams have been successfully onboarded with the Admin tool.
